The Sat Prep is done at the factory and involves the installation on the Sirius antenna in the shark fin and then running the wiring to where the unit is installed in the trunk and then to the computer for the iDrive integration. Running those wires post factory, while it may be possible, would involve removing the liner from the interior roof to gain access and run wires, and the stringing of the wiring through the interior to the trunk and then to the computer. Theoretically I guess it could be done, but I imagine the cost for a post factory install would be very high, if you could even get a dealer to try it.

My questions is "does the Sirius pre-wire have to come from the factory or can the dealer do with with software only - if I have Navigation?"

Sirius pre-wiring is done at the factory. It's essentially done with the assumption that the hardware will be added at a later date by the dealer.

Currently, there is no way to get the integrated Sirius without the pre-wiring...

my Sat story is:

Ordered sat prep from the factory $71.00, this is a must.
Sat kit from Paul Miller BMW $289.00, one year sirius service included.
Negotiated a fixed cost install with a dealer $159.00 including mounting bracket (not my dealer of choice). Got a car rental included for the whole programing day.

What would be the best place to get the Sirius parts? Best price I mean, BMW Circle currently has it a $425 on their website, but I see some postings going for $350

I?m new to this forum and wonder if you all may be able to help me. I own an 05 330i that has SIRIUS installed. I am selling the car as I just picked up an 04 530i. The 530 shows as pre-wired for sat radio. Question is regarding removing the receiver from the 330 and putting it in the 530. If I unplug the 330 receiver will I damage the system in the 330? Are there wires that need to be capped some how? Also I have a CD changed that became unusable once the sat was installed. Could I just unplug the receiver and plug the CD in and be done with the removal portion?

Once removed would I need a dealer to install the receiver in the 530 or is it a simple plug and play being pre-wired. Is there something that needs software updating ( prod date is 7/04 )?

Thanks

I picked up a 5 series accessories catalogue today when I dropped off my car for NAV retrofit. Sirius receiver, part # 65 12 6 944 987; mounting bracket, part # 65 10 6 925 468; Bolt M5x13mm(7 required); part # 07 11 9 902 932; and clip nut M5 (3 required) part # 61 13 1 372 033. System price $365 plus labor.

And amazingly enough, that is exactly what my dealer charged (see above)! Assuming asg is charged for 2 hours of labor like I was, BMW of Manhattan is charging $267.50 PER HOUR for labor!!!! Runaway! Runaway!

Hey Guys,

I am a new owner of a beautiful 2005 545i with sat prep and other stuff , but anyway I live in Seattle and looking to install the sirius satellite module. I called BMW of Bellevue and they want $1000 for the parts and install ( $595 for the module and 4 hours of labor) WTF

Then I called a dealership in Fife and they wanted $800 ( $595 for the module and 3 hours of labor) WTF

Is this normal price for 2008? or do I need to see about doing the install myself?
