All you chaps in the USA are lucky in some respects because you will have access to the BMW kit for the iPod (I spoke to two dealers in the UK last week who had not heard about the new interface), however it is not necessarily the best option around. You should have a look at the Dension Gateway 500 that is coming out at the end of June. Lots of additional ports as well as keeping the CD Changer. The new Dension system can be seen here...

Correct me if I am wrong, which may be the case. It looks like the Dension is a nice option when compared to the Aux input that can be installed now for playing the Ipod.
But, is the new BMW Ipod interface going to allow the I-drive to access and control the Ipod?
I do not see how the Dension could be controlled through the Idrive, or are you guys looking at a combination of the two?

I am new to the whole MP3/IPOD thing, and I am waiting to see the new BMW Ipod Interface.

So as far as I am aware it will be full integration with iDrive!!

The Dension Gateway 500 has been developed to work specifically with cars featuring the MOST system. Therefore full integration with OEM headunit. In addition you get to keep the CD changer which I don't think you can do with the new BMW unit.

Interesting. I would think the iDrive software would have to be developed to support an Ipod device if it were to give you control features.

Is it accurate that you lose SAT radio with the addition of the new ipod interface? I could see losing the CD changer, but don't follow why we would lose SAT radio.

I think the BMW and Dension are working the same way, as someone else says, fooling the I-Drive into thinking it is talking to a CD changer nothing more nothing less. In that case I don't understand why you would have to remove SAT radio unless this option normally causes issues with the CD changer option. I'm not sure anyone knows for sure.
>plan for $400 at least
sounds about right....
On some suppliers web site they have the Dension product prepared for sale (though no stock of course) Typical price I've seen is 399 euros.
I read somewhere about the need to have "professional installation", I'm thinking this is only required due to having to rip the dashboard guts out to get to the MOST fibre connector at the back of the radio and find a place to install the box.
