It's not just the LEDs. It's the red transparent needles, the alu outter rings and the alu round indicators as well (cruise control - rev limiter) that makes that huge difference.
and that's cosmetic Nick -

> if you have HUD, the M5 cluster permits the HUD speed to read out beyond the 260km (160miles) mark - when you have that capability (confirmed by yours truly )

> if you have a V8 - the oil temp indicator will function ! (I6 will still show consumption)

Hi Nick,
1. Red transparent needles can be exchanged (not sirynge needles, OK! ). I can be pulled out and pop back it. But the catch is we might brake the white motor.
2. We can use the M5 cluster casing so you can still have the outer aluminum ring.
3. By removing the needes, you can swab the cruise control and rev limiter discs.

LEDs are really small to solder

Strange, but it's not the V8. Andy, it is the steptronic that makes the oil temp indicator functional.

Fred, it's not an easy job to remove the needls, I've tried with no success. Needle seem to be sticked to the axle, I'm afraid that if I put some more force, I will break the motor inside.

I think Nick is right and that's why you have the steptronic .
Good luck Fred/Andy/Nick, I'm sure you'll succeed in finding the solution!

Yes!

I'm ready to go to Germany to codify the new cluster, but I'm not skilled with chips, solderings etc. .
Sorry!

I was the guinea pig for the Quaife (that I'm sure Andy will get)

Thanks a lot!
Bye!

Fred, it seems that behind the needles facette lies more chips (rear side of the visible board) - I am concerned that the chip with the rom data lies here...

I just can't get over rom would lie in the big processor chip. Shouldn't we ascertain the chip type of the ones behind the needles before we conclude to the large chip ?
