Ok, I understand ;-)
One thing I noticed with the basic setup. Once we had around 5*C below zero, so the crown was showing max rpm 4.000. And I tried only for a very very brief moment (while standing) so see if it goes say at 4.200 and it didn't
So it's a variable rpm limiter, not only a moving temperature-rev guide

Sure: you can turn the engine on and wait 5 minutes to have the crown at the limiter: the car suggests you to don't go fast when cold

I knew that, the part I didn't know was that it actually limits the rpm when cold, I thought that was just a suggestion

?Does it limit the rpm ? No puri, I don't think so... Only in N there is a limit at about 5000 rpm .

Yes, I'm absolutely positive it does...... It cuts off the ignition at 4.000 (if the engine is cold - note: I got a diesel guys), and you aren't able to rev it higher.
But in neutral (at least in my car), there is no limit, you can rev it to the redline.....Maybe because it's a manual and because it was made in 2003?

Ah, are you talking about a diesel ?
I don't know then, sorry, but I think on my car I would be able to pull hard till 6000 rpm even if just turned on .

Ok now we cleared it up
in post #18 I wrote that mine's a 530d
so 6.000 when cold for you, 4.000 when cold for me

The cruise control little tab is green (and enlighted!) instead of white!
I got a pic but with the sun you couldn't see it .
