So I just kind of learned about the whole unsprung weight idea and how bad it is to have mucho unsprung weight-would getting really light rims be a big increase (relatively big I mean as far as smaller mods go) in acceleration>? And if so what are the lightest wheels out there within a semi-reasonable price. I mean I am sure someone makes ultra ultra light wheels for 10k but I am talking somewhat reasonable pricing

The Dinan wheels are 19lbs a piece and reduce the weight by 47lbs total for the car. The bad part is that they run you 1299 per wheel. Their exhaust runs 1499 and is lighter than the standard one as well. They don't list the difference in weight though.

Ya that is out of my budget forsure-plus the Dinan wheels are just fugly IMO but I guess they are for performance. For a guy with a slow 530 who doesnt track/race-that would be a big waste of dough I guess for me-I guess this mod would not be very economical-especially for a lease car that ends in 1.5 years-I definetly am of the bimmer owner variety that is on a budget

I think my Dinan lightweight forged wheels look awesome ... AND they help acceleration bigtime!

Lof of choices out there for sure. However, be sure to check out Dinan wheelsets. These wheels amongst the lightest around. A set of 4 alone shave some 48 pounds off unsprung weight compared with the stock 18" setup. They look great and are easy to clean and maintain. The overall lightness translates immediately to noticebly improved responsiveness, handling and acceleration. Literally night and day. At only $1,299 each, thats way below your $10K limit you set here also. BEST REGARDS.

Quick question, apologies if this is a semi thread hijack...
can anyone tell me how much lighter the Alpina classic 19" rim is compared to stock?

(in the weights savings you mentioned above, does this take into account the presumably lighter tyre weight of a lower profile tyre? or is it for the rim only)

Just the rim only. So depending on your final tire selection, even more (or less) weight could be shaved from the overall setup. BEST REGARDS!

Breaking and agility, not acceleration . In other words, you make better also the acceleration, but only a bit .
