Does a muffler-ie Remus add any hp?

I slapped a Remus on awhile back along with other things so I never knew how just the Remus affected my car-but does just a muffler type deal like a Remus give you any performance or do you need a whole cat-back system with pipes going all down the car to increase flow? I guess I am asking how much restriction is at the muffler area in a stock car v. a Remus or aftermarket muffler?
