Trimbrite makes an excellent blackout tape. The stuff works great but you need a little patience putting it on. Make sure you do it on a hot day so the tape has good flexability. I blacked out the crome trim on my 530 and it looks excellent -. Take your time to ensure you get no bubbles in the tape. I got it at Pep-boys for $6.00 a roll. You will need two rolls.

I paid 160 euro for mine. It only takes about 30 to switch them out. It is a nice mod to do. Good luck!

Very nice. I already have 10 yards of matte black vinyl. I'm just waiting for the car . At least I still have a couple of weeks to drive the crap out of my 3 series. How did you do the corner rear? I was thinking of cutting about 2 inch x 48 inch piece and wrapping it around all in one piece for the rear doors. And then another separate piece each for the front doors. I read the E39 thread over and over again so I'm more prepared on what exactly to do. I also wanted to try to blackout the front chrome piece on the LCI 528i. How did you do yours? I know this method works pretty well since I did the same thing for my front grill on my 3 series. Instead of replacing the whole thing completely, I had someone cut small strips of chrome tape (bought a sheet of it for like $5) and did it for me. It worked well over the past 2 years and still strong and lasting after multiple weather conditions and car wash.
Press the tape down ,after all the bubbles are out with a soft cloth. Good luck

The Trimbrite tape is very flexible. Make sure you pick a hot sunny day. The tape is 1.5 inches wide, so just take your time and it will stretch around the corner. Trim the excess with an exacto knife - be very carefull.

P.S. I did a typo and went E46 forum and not the E39?

So I'm assuming 1.5inches depth was good enough for your job? I have to cut it out to that size because my roll is 10 yards by 1 foot. I did not get the blackout trim tape from Pepboys. I figure for another $8, I can get much more on eBay and that was also what the E46 thread recommended. Thanks for the pics man. I appreciate the time you spent taking it for me. I know you didn't have to do that. I'll definitely let you(e60 as well) know how it turns out.
