Can't see any difference between SMG and non SMG heating control units

http://bmwfans.info/original/E60/Lim/545i-...61/ill-61_1699/

Mine has the 61 31 6 938 774
Your car has to be before 09/2004, because for MY2005 the page is the following:

http://bmwfans.info/original/E60/Lim/545i-...61/ill-61_1699/

321, 322, 323, 324.

I gave the part numbers at the BMW man and he reported those 4 # are a combination of SMG/heated features.

Schulrog, we have everything now (topic =67479 ):

As you can see, there are 2 sockets on the module. And 2 on the steering.
The dark blue connector can be inserted in one of two sockets. The white connector has the *same* shape of the other socket BUT it doesn't enter because the connector is half millimeter larger.
And the dark blue one that enters perfectly in the other socket cannot be inserted in the socket when the white cannot fit, so the right place for the blue is the first.
Maybe the white connector needs to be polished a little on the side.

Any idea?
On Monday I will go to the dealer.

Edit:
The module already has a big white connector, but I'm talking about the other one you can see in the first and in the second pic.

Edit2: Maybe Rudy has a TIS for this?

oh shit! no no no lol the white connector goes into the coil spring! NOT the module!! you're right about the blue connector, it does connect to the module. i'll take my steering wheel off and take some pics for you. we should have the same setup now.

Ah, ok, now it's clear

you're right about the blue connector, it does connect to the module. i'll take my steering wheel off and take some pics for you. we should have the same setup now.

So the module I have now shouldn't have the socket for the blue connector, right?
If yes, it would be the proof the module is absolutely necessary.

You know you've done this too often if you can do it in 10 min haha

So if you look at it from top down:
1.) Black plug (multifunction stuff) -> goes to the left side of the coilspring
2.) Blue plug (Heated steering wheel) -> goes to the right side of the coilspring
3.) White plug (multifuncion stuff) -> connects all the buttons for multifunction\

you can use the black plug from 1. (see pic) from your old steering wheel control module. It has no effect on the heated stuff. Then just hook up the heated steering blue plug from 2.

Connect (1. ->left and 2. -> right) to the coil spring and put everything back together. should work after that

PS:
