I'd like to try and locate the feed for the LED high level brake light. Any ideas anyone?

Also, in the new configuration (without brake bulbs) the rods are lit about 30-40% brighter when brakes applied

Bruce, I don't think that on LCIs, only LED rods are lit at night
I thought that what our LCI friends showed us in the other thread that in the night only the LEDs rods are lit. Why are you now saying this?

Yes, but I think that the pictures was taken under daylight conditions, I didn't saw any night shots.

These were taken at my local dealership, they had a couple of LCI E60s. When the lights are on but the brake is not pushed the led rods lit up and the bulb in the round shape area. The other two bulbs are not lit. Also the four leds on the side are lit. This is US Specs

My concern is, that I still think that it has to do with DRL function in conjunction with light sensor.
I need to see an LCI night shot with DRL disabled and switch at "auto" position. Then, I will stop thinking

I took the pictures myself.

The LCI was into the garage (low light conditions)
There was no one sitting into the car.
Hand brake has been applied
The car was steptronic (auto)
The engine was running idle
The light switch was at the "auto" position
The taillighs in the picture are all lit dim.

...and me, I was wondering why they have "killed" the nice rods effect, with the background lighting

...some update

So, I detached the outter taillamps and I found that the inner (center) tails are acting now as brake lights LCM is wise
Of course, I get brake lights error message but I can live with it until we find a better solution.
They look much better now, no doubt.

Hey Nick,

To avoid the fault code you could plug a red painted (no translution paint) bulb.

If I plug any bulb, or even a resistor, then the LCM will swap the brake light power on it thus, I won't have brake indication lamps

I am going to phone the dealer tomorrow and ask how much to re-program the LCM to disable the rear tails but retain brake lighting. Do you think it's possible?
