Default ECU, airbag with gateway module, Part # 65776975686

HI,

I have a BMW 04/2005 E60 530i and have had the following message displaying for nearly a couple years:

Restraint system faulty!
Function of airbags, belt tensioners
and belt force limiters faulty. etc
I do very little country driving so it was the cost that stopped me getting a new part installed.

I recently had the car serviced and my guy said faulty part is:

65776946388 - ECU, airbag with gateway module

Alternative part #'s seem to be:

part number 65776975686
alternate stock code 65776946388, 65776943089, 65776957029, 65776960383, 5776962703

Been conversing with an eBay seller who provides 2 month warranty and guarantees part is without error and said it's compatible with my E60.

eBay part

I believe the part is located behind the glove box but have been unable to remove to check the part # to determine if it's located there.

My glovebox

It appears to have a plastic clip either side but I can't remove/slide out the existing box.

Please, any suggestions how I can remove it.

Looks like you bend those clips outward and pull the box out.

Hi,

Thanks for replying, yes, it was a very tight fit, after placing thin cardboard strips to keep clips out, after a bit of wiggling, it started to slide out.

Finished up being the same part # as the guy is listing on eBay, I just need to contact my service guy to see if my part is the faulty one.

Hi
Did you end up replacing the part?
Did you need to code it or it was plug and play?

From what I have research from the internet is:
I can be replace modules with used ones, but they need to be reprogram with my VIN.
Has anyone use WinKfp to re-program modules with your car VIN?

It's not a plug and play procedure. As far as i remember when i replaced my gateway module with a used one, but with a newer part number than mine, i had first reprogrammed it using winkfp, then code it with ncsexpert and finally reset airbag satelites using ISTA/D to make it work and get rid off that error each time i turned the car on.

Do you remember the process in WinKfp to edit the VIN?

My indy shop only needs that I I edit the VIN and he can re-sync with all car modules.
