I just came across this thread while searching. I realize this thread is a bit old but I'm hoping I can find an answer.
I'm researching installing a front camera to avoid front bumper damage.

I'm also very interested in doing this work on my e61, with having a deep front splitter I am continually concerned about smashing it on a kerb stone or steep angle.

My Ride: 2008 550i Sport package, Sport transmission
To activate, I just press and hold the menu button below the shifter (about 2 seconds). When I'm done, just press menu again and it goes back to the original screen.

It looks likes it fairly easy to operate and possibly install, did you do yours?

hello I have 2010 e60, trying to install my rear view camera too... how did you guys wire the camera to the interface unit? I located my interface unit behind the glove compartment of passenger side(where the fuses are)..
I need to know how the camera cable went through from trunk to back seat area.
Is there a gap or space between back seats and trunk area?
