Yes to all. There's instructions it comes with and you can keep your CDC.

Hell yes, but the LCI's have USB and ipod available. As to the 2004-2007 E60's, BMW did not give the USB option at all until the Dension came along.
That's right! You preach it Brotha!!!
Hoping to have my programming done so I can order this thing already.

Well, I got my GW500 this afternoon. Installed it fine - used the power connector from the CD changer, all the fibreoptics seem to be fine with respect to light directions and all the rest. But when I power up the car, I don't get anything different on the iDrive. Only my existing single CD. There is power to the GW500 because the blue LED on the audio connector comes on (blinks first and then goes solid). Also, there is activity on the fibreoptic coming from the GW500.

I've tried both settings for the DIP switches for BMW. I've also tried setting the switch to service mode. Nothing going.

I have an E60, 2005 with M-ASK, no nav, no CD changer. I always knew that I might have to get a software upgrade (either MP3 or CD changer or both). But as you can imagine, I'd like to try everything before I take it to a stealer for software upgrade.

I'm going to upgrade the firmware on the device now. Will let ye know how that goes.

Any other suggestions?

Cheers,
Cian

No luck with the firmware upgrade - I plugged my USB stick into the port and the little LED on it did not light. I left it for a few minutes but the firmware file is still there.

Looks like the GW500 might be the problem....

You'll need to get iPod interface enable coding (or at least CD Changer). GW500 will use the CD#1-#6 menu as it act like a CDC.

I managed to get it to do the firmware upgrade, which makes me a bit more confident that it's the iDrive software. I've booked it in to get a software upgrade - though it'll be 3 weeks before they can take me. I was kinda surprised it would only cost ?150 and they agreed to do both the iPod and CDC software upgrade when they knew a 3rd party piece of kit was in the car. It is a bit of a pain that they want the car for the whole day, but at least they're giving me a loan for only ?15. Will report back here when the upgrade is done.

I do need the forums help though. I wired the GW500 power to the CDC power connector. I was quite proud of myself for figuring out that the small 2x2 power connector comes off the larger connector and I could then remove the pins from the connector. Means I can get a good join on the power without cutting wires or splicing on. However, what I didn't do was take note of where the wires went in the connector. Could someone without a GW500 installed take a photo of theirs so I can figure out how to restore it if I ever need to?

Thanks!
