Excellent post. This made for a great read and I'll keep it in the archives for sure. I did a cut n' paste right out of the manual with Adobe of the USB interface in the glovebox , although I'm sure you've probably already seen this. Looks like you and Patryk are right on the money. The connector interface replaces the flashlight.

Just another topic:
I have one question re your DIY on bass solution for hifi owners.
How did you connect your jump wires to the released pins?
Did you just use the shrink tube or something additional to hold them together?

The wires are soldered and then the heat shrink is used as an insulator.

Excellent thread guys--sum things up a bit about the previous problems encountered throughout.
* Voice control works but cost extra?
* The new climate control works but requires some modding of one wire of the cable? I may have missed some posts, the old climate control will not give proper function of the compressor and engine fan?
* The old idrive controller can be used with no problem. The new idrive controller needs to have the trimming modify. A trim for it is available but costly?
* About the car's software progman update...it needs to be v33 or higher or not really necessary? I believe I have progman v30 since last updated back couple years ago.

1. Voice Control is 500Euro extra
2. If you have a pre-LCI car there will be small gaps around the buttons of the old climate control. You have to change it to the LCI climate control to get rid of them. You will also have to modify the harness and the climate control MAY require coding (done by me).
3.The old iDrive controller might not work until coded/programmed properly (done by me). The new iDrive controller can be installed in your old center console trim with a special trim I offer to my customers. It's pretty cheap, but you will have to cut your center console trim. The final look is OEM.
4.Progman v30 is OK

Yes, a side-effect of visiting the forum for too long. 
Checked with Patrys,v28 is still okay...but nice to have the latest. Dealers are always reluctant to update the car. Is it because if something doesn't update properly they don't want to waste their time recoding the car again? Or what are the odds of having a module go bad?? They make it sound like it happens everyday or something!
And in the good old days, versions were called CIP version X & then Progman version X, and now ISTA version 2.X?
