Btw I ordered the bracket and trim for the controller, should be here in 2 weeks.
Nelson,
Does this mean you're going to go ahead with the retrofit for the new iDrive control and cut the surrounding plastic where the old control is? Damnit, now you've got me thinking again. I'll let you pave the way again and tell us how it turns out before I commit. BDW, Where did you end up getting the controller bracket and trim? Would you mind posting part numbers for these also in case I go with it.

Otherwise are you now done with coding and clearing your error codes etc, also did you get the new NAV software installed? How has everything been working since?

Yes I'm going to retrofit the new controller but I'm using the existing center trim. Everybody is telling to use the new controller.Patryk is sending me the trim and bracket. The map is still downloading. Car has been at the dealership for the past couple of days, waiting on parts that had to be ordered. Hopefully I will be able to upload the new map sometime next week. Will keep you update it on everything.

Nelson, those maps are sure taking a long time to download. Hopefully you get the files soon. I agree that the new controller has a more "modern" look and the enhancement of the addional buttons surounding the toggle switch are nice. Personally I just want to ensure that if I install it, the result is a complete factory finish. How much time it takes and how much modification we have to do to get it to fit is really irrelevant as long as we achieve this. I'm sure you will agree.

You still need to have your CIC coded for your car specification.
There are a few downsides of this solution, e.g. your CIC will "think" you are driving 3mph when in fact you might be doing 70mph.
But it's an option for those who do not like the OEM approach
