Just checking in here...

AAVAND9 PM'd me the document a day or so ago. I can't read German enough to even attempt to figure out what it's saying. Also, I don't have access to those types of documents. I realized that this might be a great find so I suggested that he post it publically so others (especially the German speaking ones) can help out here.

Looks like we're doing a little better -- hopefully there will be someone else with more information chiming in soon.

As far as giving up the torch, I doubt too many people will mind -- if someone wants an aux input installed neatly, it seems to me that the flashlight would be an easy sacrifice. Besides, didn't everyone run out to Sam's Club and get one of those big ass lights that JDN was recommending?

The onla problem I see is, that an AUX inout in the glove compartment doesn't really help you that much. It needs to be in a place that you can reach easily.
And what if you want to plug the portable DVD player in that you have on the passenger sun blind? You'd need to leave the glove compartment open...
So I think installing it somewhere else, maybe in the passenger footwell would be better. Also a US spec car has the power outlet there... But then you would still don't have the player in reach...
Anyways, I think there are better places to put that jack...
I'm just glad there is such a AUX input retrofit kit now!
That'll help a little bit...

I doubt you'd have to leave the glovebox open -- there's usually plenty of room to run a wire out the side and then down the transmission tunnel.

[quote name='ULtraPLanet' date='Oct 13 2004, 11:28 PM']This looks like a do-it-yourself type job too!? Nice find!? Do you figure the part number is - 65 12 0 153 502 ??

The part number is correct BUT !!! this IS NOT a DIY job, since there is programming needed to make the AUX appear in the entertainment menu...

Good point I was getting a little ahead of myself.

WONDERFUL find!
I wanted this exact option when I ordered the car 8 months ago. Electrically, it is trivial, but the i-Drive needs to recognize this signal. I too am asking for this from my dealer ASAP - German or not. BTW, I cut and pasted text into Google language translator but it does a poor job with technical jargon. It is the long awaited aux input!

Fantastic news. I think this post should be turned into a sticky. If this thing is not available in the US are any of our German counterparts willing to do a little international business?

Is it true that if some new installed hardware will be detected automatically lthe software will be loaded for it once i-Drive goes thru reprogramming at the dealer?

I call my dealer this morning to check if I could order it and
he didnt know too much of that part # etc., so he will check
but the gooood news is that he told me my car finally arrived
at the center point in Belgium - so next week it will land in the
dealership I will get the papers to put it on the road (insurance
etc) plate isnt an issue in Belgium 'cos we are using always the
same plate.
