Attempted to do a M5 mirror install today but ran into a problem

The M5 mirrors that I have use a LIN bus to communicate with the car. The mirrors themselves have an ECU which interprets the commands issued by the Body Gateway Module and then performs the function inside the mirror itself - thus needing only 3 wires.
However in my car the Body Gateway Module itself is controlling the mirror functions. There is no ECU inside the mirror - hence needing 4 wires.
The only way I can use the M5 mirrors is if I rip out the entire motor unit from my old mirrors and then slice some wires in the M5 mirrors harness to get the heating function working. It a completely waste of a perfect M5 mirror. I might as well sell it and buy something better suited. The M5 glass also uses a Hirschmann branded connector instead of a Tyco/Amp one which is near impossible to find. If I can find the Hirschmann plug then I may still give it a go.
Maybe the M5 was never made with this configuration and thats the reason no one has ever mentioned this before. I keep learning new stuff everyday.

EDIT-Also, is there a chance you can transplant the ecu motor from your stockers to the new M mirrors?

WOW. That is interesting. I wonder how many people have the same version as your ones. I've seen alot of write ups on M5 mirrors being fitted, both Pre and Post 9/2005 - and (as you say), have never come across anyone with this issue.
Does that mean you won't be able to find M5 mirrors that suit your car ??

Recently had my M5 mirrors installed on my 06 530. It was a direct plug and play. Everything works except for the auto-fold.

Yes the M5 mirrors are definately RHD and are for the post Sep 2005 cars.
I think BMW was trying to cut costs my using the method used in my car, I guess there is a huge fleet car market out there which has the basic mirror so why not save some costs on the manufacturing. In terms of functions the mirror is absolutely vanila - no extra features whosoever. I think everyone else who have attempted this M5 mirror on a post Sep 2005 car must have some other feature beside heated glass, which meant that BMW installed the ECU version on the original mirrors and hence M5 mirror swap was directly plug and play.
As mentioned I can get the puddle light and the auto-fold to work on my M5 mirror, but I hate to cut the wires from the M5 ECU to the M5 glass just to get at the heated glass. Can't live without heated glass in the UK.
