After considering my options, I was able to find a used set in mint condition, no wiring or lens issues so I purchased them. I am curious to know what is required to open them up and perhaps re-wire them. I have been unable to find any specific information as of yet on how it is properly done.

You most likely do not need to re-wire them. You just have to cover the exposed wires.

The headlight assembly is notorious for the wire insulation becoming brittle, in turn exposing the harness wires.

The are two access covers on the back of the headlight assembly.

yea I tried that, had to open the lights a second time until I completely stripped them (which was norhtin more than touching all the wires) and rewrapping them in heat shrink. do it right, do it once.
