I pulled off my steering wheel on my e39 this morning and replaced the 4 spoke with a 3 spoke M Sport wheel I got from Autobahn in San Diego. I had to buy an airbag for it. It had one on it but it looked like one from a dual stage. When I completed the mod, buttons worked, volume and channel changing. The cruise control worked too. However I can't go faster than 20 or 30 mph. Think I may be in safety mode. How did I get there and how do I get out of safety mode. I called the dealer and you know what they told me. They said the whole car needs to be reprogrammed. I know others who have done this mod and they didn't have to have a reprogramming. I made sure battery was disconnected (actually taped it up). Anyone come across this before? Thanks
