I just have to ask, what will you do with the 400lbs of salt! Anyway your car looks great! Too bad the 166 style doesn't come in the standard size as I was just given a free set of run-flats by the dealer...2 years and 16,000miles later! BTW, why don't you come down to our SoCal Meet and Greet? You're not that far, I just came back from S.B. last week, it's only a couple hours, or less, away!
The 166 wheels do come in 18s, but they would be replicas. There are one or two members here sporting 18" 166 replica wheels.

Hi guys,

Does anyone know, where from the speedometer takes the signal, front, or real axle?
I think its via the abs/dsc sensor, but on which one axle?
I think also that, it can't be from both the axles.

The speedo signal comes from rear axle ABS sensor which is mounted on the rear left side.

very nice indeed....
some other opinion, the car looks ggod, just a bit higher becasue of the difference in diameter... also remember your speedometer is affected with this change...
I opted to stick as much with the factory recommendations for my car since its not an M5... so for the fronts I have 245-35-19 in a 8.5x19 rim and the rears I have 285-30-19 in a 9.5x19 rims.. the front and rear are the same diameter now plus i have the staggered look...

Curious,

Do you happen to know the offsets on your rims?

Thanks

Here's mine, with 255/30 and 295/25 PS2, factory sport springs. I have heard it rub once, fully compressed, ont the left rear. Very happy. BTW, I tried the 245 and the 285 when I mounted the wheels ( I actually got 8 tires and moutned two each to be sure). To me, the 245 just didn't look as gooe as the 255/30, and the rears were a no brainer. Hope this helps.

Finally I did it and I have no rubbing now.

245/40/19 front
275/35/19 rear

Bridgestone RE50A W RFTs. Pressure 30 front - 25 rear / 30-30 when car is loaded (for a smoother ride) ...much better on road bumps, I'm a happy/safe RFTs user now

I milled off 2mm of the front rotors outter surface, where the wheel mounts and I have no rubbing issues now.
There is much "meat" to mill there, I think 8-9 mm, so 2mm off, is a quite safe job.
I could shape 2mm and off the wheel too, but there is no reason now. (I don't like to mod the wheels at all)

I have also 7mm spacers fitted on the rear wheels, no rubbing on road bumbs so far, but I haven't check it loaded.

Speedo is 100% accurate now (95% with stock wheels). Double checked, when speedo reads 170km, my portable Destinator GPS system reads 170

I just bought a 535 and put my 166's on and i am rubbing in the front over almost every other bump
I was planning on getting the 245/40/19's for the front but I just found out that that size was discontinued in the continental sport contact 2. I really don't want to mismatch the tires so if someone knows where I can find 245/40/19's continental sport contact 2 please tell. If not does anyone have any other suggestions on what tires I should run?

I am new to the BMW world so please be gentle.

Great, thanks for the tip. I was at the Dealer today getting windshield replaced and asked them about my M5 rims and tires (Falkens) on my 530i MY05 Sport package. They didn't know a hill of beans. I did look at an M5 they had and a 550i with M6 Wheels and the M5 with the 166's was rear 285/35 and front was 255/40.

I think I am going with th 295/30/19 on my rear and keep the 245/35/19 on the front. Hopefully I can find two more Falken tires for the rear.

Hi BlueMajik
I know its been a while but how did you go with those 295/30/19 on the rear? Any rubbing?
I thought 255/35/19's on the front wouldn't have been a problem either?
