Did you just come up with that or did you read my post #9?
Both inlet pipes on the 14816 and 14862 are 2.25". This is not ideal for the 545/550. The max difference you should have, according to American Muffler, is .25". The outlet on the 525/530 is 2.5", so this is fine. However, on the 545/550, the outlet is greater than 2.5". I believe it's 2.75 or even closer to 3". Not good.

Anyway, I had 14816 on my 530 and it was great. However, I'm not sure it's a great move for the 545/550's. However, it definitely sounds great. I've heard 14862 on both, gregg2gs (550) and bimmer722 (545). If the loss is negligible, I say go for it. However, the only way to truly know is to do a dyno before and after.

Yep, as I said, you'll experience a loss of torque but thats less important to me than getting some sound. If anyone wants to gain the small amount of hp and torque left in the car, they should be buying tuned systems such as Dinan.

Im not looking to gain anything and as I said, I too want the deeper V8 sound but I dont want to lose hp or torque as a tradeoff. Im not concerned about gaining any hp or torque nor do I want to spend the $ on a Dinan or any other expensive brand. Guess Im S.O.L. Seems as if you're enjoying yours though so thats all that really matters now isnt it???

All the best

Im confused. All you guys talk about these Magnaflow exhausts. Why does their website specifically say that the exact exhausts you guys are talking about are designed specifically for import tuner cars and they dont currently offer an exhaust for a V8 BMW?????? What am I missing? I have a feeling all you guys put an incompatible exhaust on your car that gives you sound but improper backpressures. Id be curious to see true readings of power before and after. Dont get me wrong, I desperately want one and I may still get it despite my suspicions because like all of you, Im looking for the sound but I really dont want to lose any power or torque. I think Im going to call them and ask this question.

First of all poledancer, you're and idiot ...secondly, my car is as fast, if not faster with the 14862 and I have the 550i, as you know. At the end of the day, even if there is slight backpressure loss, its the best mod I did!!! Love it! Ralph loves his too.

American Muffler did mine and had zero problem doing it. Steve knows who to put on the car...guy with the corn rows. thirdly, where's my DVD? Hahaha

Interesting....so you dont feel any less torque than you used to??? My worry is the install itself. Theres a Speedy King in the area but I dunno if theres an American Muffler...

Calton, I'm disappointed you didn't say the following- "if your concerned about torque or HP loss, BUY AN M5!!"...

You're slipping in your old age...better eat some yogurt.

In all seriousness, I feel zero difference...the one MAJOR advantage besides sound and looks is that I have picked up 3mpg on avg hwy driving. When I used to get 23.5/24 mpg, I now get 27/28 mpg on Hwy doing 70-85mph and cruising.

That is a definite fact!
