Not too many rims, fewer options when it comes to dropping, no vendors on this site (except for the rare exceptions) run specials for Xi's - and I can go on and on about it...

EDIT: I think the problem stems from BMW themselves - they intentionally do not offer sport suspension on Xi, more than half of their own dealers don't even know that a staggered setup is available for Xi - and those that do, only know of it in theory, most likely. They further make things worse for Xi by raising it's ride height and now giving it the shameful little "X-Drive" badges here and there. In the meantime the technology is good and trusted and proven, not to mention that it basically made the BMW brand available as daily drivers living in colder/wetter climates... and we still get no love WTF?!?!

anyway, here's mine a couple of months ago - had a few more minor things added since, but the idea is there:
Attachment 87596
Attachment 87597

Post pics of yours (even if you've since sold it, bought an M5 and hooked it up, and even if you bought an M5, sold it and then got a 550 sport )

and don't forget to rant a little about how you wish something was made available to Xi owners (like M166 rims... )
100% correct thoughts and feeling but sorry bro' not true...

you can drop your xdriven E60 still by 2cm FA/RA and still run on 19" of our wheels, PM me if interested. Once we dropped the xdrive you can still have an Ecu mod and yours will be faster than the normal RWD. PM!

I love my xi too. Around here in the summer time you get a lot of thunderstorms that pour rain. Perfect weather to have the xi safety margin. Also in the winter, it is good to have the AWD. I am certain rear wheel drive is better at 10/10 driving but for a daily driver I love my xi.

I feel that the xi is an easier choice when dealing with the N54 engine. The power surge and performance afterward is amplified when the power is delivered to all four wheels. You may need a JB3, or some type of increase in whp by about 60+ in order to fully enjoy it, but it can be done and for cheap.

This was interesting...particularly this statement "the majority of AWD vehicles use the front wheels primarily and only direct power to the rear wheels when a sensor detects front-wheel slip." I wonder if that's the case with the BMW AWD? You don't ever really get the sense of torque steer that you sometimes feel with a front wheel drive, but it does feel different in the steering.
BMW X Drive system drives the rear wheels and sends up to 35% (I'm not absolutely sure on this number) of torque to the front. It is, as a matter of fact, the first ever mass production AWD system to do so. Audi's Quattro system was 50/50 front/back until the BMW X-Drive came out, and now Audi also has a "rear-biased" system. That's a huge achievement for BMW, considering that Audi had about 25 years head start on the mass-produced AWD application with Quattro. Of course, Lamborghini had used rear-biased AWD systems longer than they've been building cars, so arguably you could say that they made the first "production" rear-biased AWD system. But considering that a 5er sells more cars in a day, than Lamborghini does in a year (probably), you can't really say it was a "mass-produced" innovation.

Of course, the point of my above statements is that the X-Drive system is much more than just note-worthy and is absolutely proven to be worth it's cost. Perhaps, this is why I'm surprised that "Xi don't get enough love"...

Man, I didn't know one of the options that come standard with the xi was a RWD option envy complex! Jk dude

I am probably posting too late to get much of a response since this thread is a few days old.

I recently purchased a 530xi and in the past few days, I have started developing severe "RWD option envy complex" and I hope you might be able to help.

Don't get me wrong, until now, I loved the car and it was my favorite of the 9 BMWs I've been fortunate enough to own.

I realize the xi is slightly heavier and slightly slower than the RWD model, but I notice a significant difference in the acceleration of my 530xi and the 530i that I test drove before making my purchase. I know the transmission is adaptive and I am sure the car at the dealership was adapting to being abused, accounting for part of the difference. Has anyone else compared the two and thought the same? (Both were 2006 models, so they had the same HP.)

I did not realize until reading this posting that the Sports Package on my 530xi did not include the sports suspension. I understand why, but it is a little disappointing. I have owned several 5 Series BMWs and the sports package is a necessity. I am gathering that with the XI, the sports package includes the shadow-line trim and sports seats, as the 18" sports wheels are also an option ? sadly, an option the original owner of my car did not choose. I thought this an easy fix ?

I must not have done my homework before buying the XI and it did not occur to me that the all-wheel- drive 5 Series requires different wheels than the RWD models.

I will post a wanted to buy or trade ad in the classified section, but I thought this most of the readers of this posting are XI owners, that is might be a better audience to express my interest in overcoming my "RWD envy complex" by at least getting the sports wheels for my XI.

If anyone has a set of OEM XI sport wheels, preferably style #123, I am very interested! I am sure many of you have upgraded the wheels on your xi's and I am hoping that someone has a set of 123's gathering dust.

I thought I had purchased the set of 123's listed in the classifieds, but apparently, I was not the only buyer the owner committed to sell the wheels to, so it's back to the search.

Included are two pictures of my car (with the 17" style #138 wheels) and a photo what I hope my car looks like if I am able to find another set of xi 123 wheels (maybe not in chrome as I hear that is frowned upon on this forum).

We have loads of 3 series and 5 series Xis up here. A few of them are actually driven in winter on snow.
