Hi guys, it's dark it's rainy and my wipers have just failed. I can hear the motor ok but they are just stuck there in upright position. Any experts?
Thanks

Check out the fuse!

In the rear trunk lid there should be a fuse map and spare fuses.

Thanks for reply but not the fuse because I can hear the motor. Cannot be the linkage cause they move up to vertical then stop. Strange thing is I can hear the motor but why do the wipers stop moving after the vertical position.

One of the linkage bolts may have loosened or stripped. There are larger ones at each connecting point - check to see if they are tight or when they reach any resistance they will only spin free and not actuate or more the linkage assembly.

No mate not frozen to windshield. It moves fully up ok. It just doesn't come back down, thought it was the linkage but if I manually move them they stop about 8 inches from rest then I press the wiper lever and they move themselves to rest position. So I don't see how it can be mechanical. Going to plug my diagnostics in and see if it's a module.

Thanks

Thanks for the pic. My gt1 diagnostic scanner is picking up a fault maybe someone out there could decipher it in english.

KBM-A428- INTERLOCK- WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR B6160-5002.

Now at a quick glance it looks like its the motor but i can hear the motor. So whats an interlock???

Thanks again

On a previous non-BMW vehicle it was the parking setting on the wiper motor that instructed the motor to stop when the wiper had completed its "cycle".

I don't know how that is accomplished on our BMWs but feel safe to say I'm sure it's NOT SIMPLE!

I'm pretty sure your wiper motor has failed and needs replacement.
