Hi all,
I have noticed that if I drive with the headliner pulled back but sunroof closed that I can hear the wind noise throught the seal almost as if it is leaking. I drove my friends brand new 550i and it did not seem to have same issue.
I mentioned it to my dealer and he said, "We road tested yours and a new 550 and they sound the same." I think this is crap since my test proved different.
Can you please tell me:
What is your experience?
Is there a service bulletin out about this??
Thanks.

I have the same wind noise problem AND the same BS story from two different dealers. I think we just have better ears!

Having just come out an 04 530, I can tell you the wind noise was terrible with the headliner open......so much so, I never left it open while driving. I just picked up my 07 550, and there is almost NO wind noise with the headliner open....I was quite pleased by that!! That being said, I don't know if your dealer was being lazy, or what, but it's a known problem with these cars, and apparently no easy fix.......turn the music up!!

I have the same problem and have asked the dealer to look at it only to get a generic response "its normal". I always close the headliner when the sunroof is closed due to this.

I have the same wind noise.
I just drive with the headliner closed. Blocks out more sunlight, and I like it dark.

There is no recall or TSB for the wind noise/leak from the sunroof, however, it is a known problem that can be repaired. I had the same issue. Initially the service technician did not hear the noise/leak. Fortunately, my service advisor compared our 545i to a new 550i and could tell the difference. The dealer replaced the rubber seal around the sunroof, a couple of velcro/felt strips, and tightened two "bands" which secure the sunroof mechanism. The sunroof is now quiet at all speeds, regardless if the shade is open or closed.

I've had the same noise over time with my 01' 740i, my '02 330i, my wife's '03 330i. It just happens after a while. I had the seals replaced on the 740 and the sound was gone, but came back about a month later. Easy fixes: 1) Drive with the slide closed; 2) Drive with the sunroof open; 3) Pump up the volume.
