Who would buy a 550i now?

Amen to that statement. I buy cars because I like them and get satisfaction from them. I really care less what others think. In fact, stealthy is a plus in my book. I am thinking about de-badging too. It looks cleaner.

OK , here's an idea. The 535 Dinan upgrade is $2000+/- ............... What could be done to achieve more HP and Torque on a 550 with the same amount of money and what would the final outcome be ?............... OK Iron Chefs you have 1 hr to complete the task

My Ride: 2008 535i: June 6th start build, complete June 17th, at NY Port July 5th, at dealer July 10th, took delivery Friday July 13- Plantimum Bronze/Natural Brown Leather/Light Poplar, Sport Package, Sport Auto, Active Steering, Premium Package, CWP & PDC. Dinan Performance Software 384hp & 421 ft/lbs.

You would only get 6-8 hp and 8 ft lbs for the same $2000, but the warranty would still be good if its Dinan products.

My wife has a 335xi and I have a 550. Nearly identical acceleration times, very different motors. The turbo engine puts up quick stats by launching hard off the line, the V8 launches hard but then in the mid range to top end opens its lungs and out thrusts the turbo. For an enthusiast the 550 is compelling, but perhaps the best all round 5er is a 535xi stick (IMHO).

There is definitely a market for both the 8 and tt6 for the next 1 year. Then the 2010 twin turbo 8 comes out in 2009 and people won't be making comparisons with the 6 cylinder anymore...

Luv u too there Darlin; I'm not trashing the TT at all (i almost got one...)and it will be interesting if what you're saying will happen regarding the M's, but for now my ship is doing just fine and based on the original question of the post, would I buy it again?, my answer would be yes, unless the right M5 was in front of me. How was that race anyway? just kiddin, I like the banter.

you can always gain more hp with a 550i with a custom S/C but that would cost a hefty amount. If you want speed, get a Corvette. IMO, BMW is about handling and looking good

I don't get it? Are you pointing to yours? The 555i is coming in 1-2 years with V8 TT and 535i will stay the same for a while (maybe better air intake or SW to get to 330HP or so).
