Grrr.... I just realized that the 550i costs 85,000 USD in Sweden. And that's without options... (OK, partly due to the current exchange rate, but still)

No wonder you all drive 550's over there!

Haha i recently bought a 550i....count yourself lucky narvselius. It cost me around $200k with all the options. i dont know if you'll believe me or not but the tax on cars is outrageous

My reasoning is simple. My previous two cars were an E39 M5 and a 650i. In short, I gotta have a V8. I love the sound and the smooth throttle response of the 550i. I had driven a 335i but not a 535i. The performance was similar but the "feeling" was not (for me). Plus the sharp 19 inch wheels and M front bumper set the 550i apart from the other models. I was also used to the price and payment level for the 550i so the decision was easy for me.

I have to confess that when my 545i lease was close to expiration and I had to decide on it's replacement, I went trough the 535 or 550 decision. I drove both, twice. I could hardly tell the difference in power between them, I was rationalizing that the 535 was so close to the 550 for $7k less, I wanted it to be better or at least as good or close.
Regards

Casper
My 535 choice was solely based on the availability of the Dinan software, or at the time the rumor of BMW's own software. I felt that this leapfrogged the 535 ahead of the 550 in performance, after getting it I still feel this way. I have confidence in the warranty and I'm not sure why everyone else is concerned since I'm the only one that actually has the Dinan software. But if you have the 550, for another $100 per week, you could have the M5. It seems well worth it if you really want the M5.
A big negative that the 550 guys failed to calculate is the $2000 for the software can't be residualized so the $2000 software is more like a $3500 option, if you are leasing. I was not as concerned about the money and was looking for the best performance 4 door sedan that can be driven all four seasons (I installed staggered All Season ultra performance tires which I am leaving on.)
I don't want an M5 for my daily driver and if I was going to add a fourth vehicle I would get the M6.

That's what happens when you read part of a contract, things get taken out of text. Dinan will warranty anything that goes wrong, including consequential damage. What you are reading is that they will not warranty if you do other modifications other than Dinan modifications. They test there products on stock cars and thats what they warranty.
I simply said that the warranty is not a collaboration/agreement between BMW and Dinan. Of course, Dinan will fix things that go wrong, including consequential damage (caused by their product). However, that is Dinan's warranty, not BMW.

Interesting. I don't think I've ever looked at my door sticker.

My 2nd 3er was a 320iS - not sure what the door sticker said but it was one of the only models sold in the U.S. with badge delete.

(Ja, I'll probably run down to the garage soon and look)
Mine merely states 550i, despite having the sport package. Obviously, I don't have an "iA," since I don't have an auto.

You learn something new every day.

550iA on my door sticker with the sport auto.

I last heard that (540iA) on the '97 E39 to differentiate it from the 6 speed.

My Ride: 2010 E63 AMG -- Palladium Silver/Black. Love this car but looking to switch things up to keep things fresh. 2nd AMG in a row, but toying with coming back into the BMW fold!

I would, I would!!!

After driving a 550i with sport package today, I can not believe how different it is than my 545i (Never thought that was even possible). A great car (545i) in an of itself, but the 550i was much more powerful/responsive than I expected it to be, yet surprisingly the printed 0-60 tests do not seem much different. How come?

My lease is up in 75 days, so as much as I want to wait for the new 2010 5 Series with the 4.4L Twin turbo, I don't think I can hold off.

Any advise? Also, are the after market exhausts the exact same fitment than from my 545i?

Thanks.
