what are you guys doing about radar detectors?

I was gonna hardwire the escort sr7 + zr3 but the problem is that there is no where to put the control module. Therefore I was planning to use my 8500 with the laser shifter. I am curious as to what most people have setup. I do understand that many of yoiu are using the V1, I am more interested in the setup, not the type of detector. Also, has anyone hardwires a detector succesfully?

This is what I am planning:
Hardwire my V1 per the DIY section of the forums.
I was also looking into getting a ZR3/Blinder/K40 custom installed, with stuff hidden, and indicator in the dash display. The place I was looking at, will disassemble the display unit, and integrate it in. Don't know if I am ready to spend the money yet though. Need to evaluate the threat of laser to me.
I know they would not work together like the 8500 and ZR3, but would rely more on my V1 for Radar, and the ZR3/Blinder/K40 for Laser.

The thing with laser is that you just never know. I wish I could find out whether they use laser in NYC or not. I have the sr7+zr3 setup in another car, its great! I think the laser has saved me a few times but still not very sure. I just dont trust anyone to open up this car.

evperry - always hardwired the V1 - 97 M3, 01 M5, 02 X5 3.0i and 03 X5 4.6is.
Dallas PD and surronding communities for the most part seem to use radar although the DPD motorcycle cops seem to using laser more these days on the freeways.
Just like everyone, you just have use local knowledge as to were they typically hide and be alert. For me, I think I visually spot them just prior to the V1 providing confirmation. IMHO if you put blind faith in any detector it will fail you at some point, if just a matter of time.
I plan on taking the hardwire instructions from this forum to the dealer to do prior to delivery.

Im in Queens and drive fast all day long. I cant push this thing until I get soem type of system installed. I might just try the 8500 with the zr3 and hardwire the 8500 to see if that works,
