My Ride: Collected Sept 2009 - BMW E90 M3, Silverstone II, Novillo Black leather, 19" M Double-Spoke alloys, High Beam Assist, Electronic Damper Control, Voice Control, PDC, USB, DAB, High Gloss Shadowline, Sliding armrest, Trim Finishing in aluminium grey.
Newbie here to the E60 Forum. I only registered earlier today but checked through the site last August when deciding on the purchase of an E60.
Looking through a thread (no pun intended) on tyre punctures, has anyone come across 'Porous Alloys'. The system (17" run-flats on 138 alloys) indicated a puncture 3 days after I collected the car. I checked and the front near-side was at 20psi (normally 30psi). Assuming a PDI over-sight, I topped it up and went on my merry way.
Exactly 20 days later, puncture warning popped up on the display again. Same tyre at 20psi. So, either a slow puncture or a manufacturing fault. Because it took 20 days to drop down from 30psi, I assumed the worst. Approached the dealer and I suggested something sinister was at play. Called in to teh dealer and he checked but couldn't detect the slow puncture.
However, he had another new E60 with the same wheel/tyre combination and swapped it without hesitation. I had about 800km on the car at that stage. He mentioned that he had heard of a few issues and that possibly the alloys were at fault. I haven't had any other wheel issues since but I thought the service was good considering.
Thought I'd pass this on.
