What I meant to say is basically this... You wont find too many guys or gals in their 20's driving a 7 series... and thats not because we dont like it... we probably cant afford it. That turns out to be a good thing for people who buy the 7 because that brings them to a new status. They're richhhhhhhhhh biaaaaaatchhhhhh... as David Chappelle would say.

Had a 745 for a week, own a 645, and test drove a 530. From my perspective the 5 series is an aggressive and stunning looking sedan. If the 550 handles anywheres near a 645/650 which I suspect it does then that and looks alone would drive me to the 5 series. The 7 series is excellent for what it is, a luxury sedan best suited for long hiway cruising in great comfort, especially with a bigger load than the 5 or if wanting to impress in your social / business life. But if its about the "drive" then it has to be the 5 - except you're missing the best of them all; the 6er

I wouldn't drive a 7 series when I were in 20s. People might think it's my Daddy's car.

My 550i was in the shop for a full three weeks (new lifters...which of course had to come from Germany) and I was given an 06 750i as a loaner. As for my perspective, I am 40 and have two young kids.
The big difference besides size is that in the 750 you feel very insulated from the environment - in the 550 there is much more road feel/connectedness. After 3 weeks of daily driving the 750, my 550 felt like a rocket when I got back in. Beautiful car but would not trade it for my 5.....well maybe when I'm 60 (no offense).
Pros
Super smooth luxury - very quiet
If you drive a lot of highway miles this is your car!
love the "soft close" doors - just make contact and the doors pull themselves closed
auto close trunk
definately more comfortable for rear seat passengers (not that I care)
large fuel capacity
Cons
The i-drive was much different and confusing than in my (non-nav) 550
Car is just too big - spots where I'd park my 550 were just too tight. If you live in a traffic congested city you will really feel size of this monster.
Lack of connectedness with the road IMO
If you are seriously considering a 750, arrange for a demonstrator for a week or two, even if you need to give the dealer some money - give it a good test.....and then buy a 5.

My Ride: '05 545i - scheduled for ED pickup in Munich on 7/22!

Here's what I don't like about the 7 Series:
- No manual or SMG in 750
- My 545 Sport is already TOO comfortable and NOT hardcore enough for me, 750 will be worse.
(I would've gotten an M3 if I didn't have to drive the family around)
- I'm too young for a 7 Series, I'd look like a drug dealer.
- I liked the 745's looks over the current 750.
Here's what I do like about the 7 Series -
- There might be times when I'd want to show off
(perhaps to pose as a drug dealer too
Slap some 22" black rims on there and I'd be good to go
)
I'm sticking with the E60.
