What would you do?

I have an interesting question for the brilliant minds out there. All things being equal (most importantly price) would you rather have a 750i or a 550i? Please provide rationale.

Although this is a e60 forum. Of course a 750i, it's in the different class.
Put everything else aside, 750i has more metal, okay!

550i. Better performer. Smaller/more agile. Don't need a boat--except maybe a Billy Boat.

Znod,
Have you driven one lately? I have not but from all the reports and testimonies it is far from a boat.

No, but I have a 545i. I have never driven a 750i. But, I think that my inferences are quite reasonable.
You should go drive one just for the sake of doing it. I mean really drive one, not the old-lady spin around the block next to the dealership test-drive, but one where you put the VANOS and the ARS to good use (and not just see those acronyms as "points" in a mythical Scrabble game )
The harder you push the 750i, the smaller and more nimble it feels. Try it. Plus, it's only about 600lbs heavier than a 545i and has a better f/r weight distribution than the 5er. The 0-60 numbers between the 2 cars are minimal and only something your trusty G-Meter could pick up (something like 5.6 for the 545 and 5.8 for the 750?)
Funny, that B2round would ask this question, i.e. 550 or 750, because I am now struggling with the same issue - although it's between an M5 and 750.
I've always felt that the M5 was grossly overpriced for what you get and, more importantly, what I plan to do with it -- e.g., drive it around town with the occasional "push-it-to-max" driving experience.
With the 750, I get more luxury amenities, better gas mileage and a cheaper price.
M5 = MSRP (in my case around 92k before taxes, license, etc.)
750i = tad lower than Invoice (in may case around 74k before taxes, license, etc.)

All stated below is only my opinion.
I'd go with 550. Not only it looks MUCH better than 7 series (yes, even re-styled it is still weird), but to me 7 is a grandma car, kind of like Cadillac of BMW's. I test drove one 2 months ago (750) and it left me very unimpressed. It is a boat. I think that 5 is a heavy car, but 7 is VERY heavy, nowhere near nimble. But who am I to tell you this, I drive Z3 everyday.... :-)
On the other hand - if you like luxury - the 7 is much better choice - that car is very luxurious. So it comes down to your circumstances.

Great to hear your outlier views again.

Right, that's how I feel about the 545i; it feels more and more nimble all the time. And, as I said, the 550i is a better performer--meaning straight-line. And, the 750 defintiely is bigger. QED But, OK, maybe I'll go drive one. I still can't see how the 750i will be more nimble, etc., than the 550i.
I thought you had ordered your M5. But, anyway, I do think the M5 is over priced once you add amenities. I would only consider a base one. And, my, how short some of memories are. And, admittedly, I have changed my mind too--about any M5 except a base one.

Actually, my post about the M5 being a bargain still holds true -- only if you compare it to the 650, which I think is even more grossly overpriced than the 550, 750 or M5.
M6 > 650 > M5 > 750
Cheers.
"outlier" -- I suppose I've been called worse (no, in fact, I have been called worse).
