"outlier" -- I suppose I've been called worse (no, in fact, I have been called worse).
I thought I was being nice when I called you an outlier. Didn't you mean M6 < 650 < M5 < 750 in terms of overall-ness?

I thought you had ordered your M5. But, anyway, I do think the M5 is over priced once you add amenities. I would only consider a base one. And, my, how short some of memories are. And, admittedly, I have changed my mind too--about any M5 except a base one.

Getting back to the original question... I think it all depends on what you want to do. Im 27 going on 28 and I think the 550 is more for me... I got the rest of my life to get a 750. Now... my father has the 750 and that car is as sick as it gets. The drive is perfect for a big car and the overall luxury is just unmatched for the price. If you think you are a little more sportier go with the 550 if you are a bit more classy ( I dont want to say old) go with the 750. I think either way you are good to go... you definitely cant go wrong either way.

On reflection - I'd have the 750.

On the face of it , the 550 should be the more nimble car as pointed out above.

But....

In the end neither are sports cars, they are big powerful luxury cruisers.

The 750 isn't that much bigger than the 5, is still an extremely engaging drive and is also a top of the range flagship.

Downsides are you will look like a director of a major international company or his chauffer (not such a problem if you actually ARE one of these already).

Should we be bothered about re-sale values? Both will lose money like a gambling addict in vegas, but the 7 will be worse.

I drove a 745Li and was not that impressed ( and yes I did not JUST drive it around the block).

Sure it was more spacious and luxurious but not as nimble or sporty as an e60.

I don't know how much better a 750 is

550i. Better performer. Smaller/more agile. Don't need a boat--except maybe a Billy Boat.
Dido here. The E60 looks much better and has to handle better. I suspect the acceleration gap is wider than listed in this post. The 7 is big and it?s nice for sure (liked it more prior to the refresh). If given the choice, I'd take a new 7 and sell it for cash. Then I'd buy the E60 and, with the extra cash, go on a massive drinking bender in Germany.

As for what's overpriced, every BMW is overpriced. One thing, the yearly depreciation on the 7 is catastrophic!!!

Thank you for not saying old. I can stand being less classy, but old?

You know I just don't need a car as big as the 750. I love the way my 5er drives and frankly, it's just the right size. 550

Actually, I've put my M5 order on hold. I'm waiting for HD radio to become available for the M5 (so silly, it's an option for all other 5 series, but the M5).

Actually, my post about the M5 being a bargain still holds true -- only if you compare it to the 650, which I think is even more grossly overpriced than the 550, 750 or M5.

M6 > 650 > M5 > 750

Cheers.

Totally agree with you. Don't give me wrong, I think 6 series are great cars. But no matter from what angle to look at the car, it just doesn't worth that much.

What I meant to say is basically this... You wont find too many guys or gals in their 20's driving a 7 series... and thats not because we dont like it... we probably cant afford it. That turns out to be a good thing for people who buy the 7 because that brings them to a new status. They're richhhhhhhhhh biaaaaaatchhhhhh... as David Chappelle would say.
