My thoughts exactly! I think i will drill my existing plate and mount my $3.50 button in the right place as shown in AchtungE60's picture earlier in the thread.

It also seems that you could cut the proper size hole if you ordered the OEM button and only be out the $75, but that's still rediculous.

*Guess the parts are High Speed Certified!*

If I read OP's diagram #3 correctly pin #10 is the ground so pin #9 look like the positive side of the LED indicator light.
You want to verify that ... just don't take my word as is ...

Disagree if you want but I'm telling you what I'm telling you that pertains to my car 2004, which is fully loaded and has every option besides the cold climate options. Honestly I don't have time to figure out the differences on different models etc, but putting it in "sport" mode only changes the steering stiffness on my E60. If i put in D/S mode then it changes shifting band. Never had a problem with throttle lag so I couldn't tell you. Perhaps it's different because I upgraded all my software in 2011 to v46. Who knows..... who cares.

Great info and feedback on this thread! I am just trying to figure out how you get the 3 wires in the original socket that plugs into the unit. I am thinking you need to feed the wires in through the back of the plug so when plugged back in the leads make contact.

That connector has to be taken apart to make it easier to feed the wires/pins into it. If you look at right side of the connector (with it oriented as if you were trying to plug in in with the pins facing the back of the car), there is a small tab that you have to push outwards with something really flat and thin (I used a small watch-repair flat head screwdriver). On the exact opposite side of the connector, there is a small hole on the casing which exposes the inner part of the connector. While you are pushing out on the tab on one side, use another small screwdriver to push on the inner part of the connector through the hole on the opposite side and the inside piece with the wires will slide out.

Hope this helps.

This thread is awesome, thanks OP for sharing! Anyone try this on a 545i with Active steering and Dynamic handling?

I do want to try this mod, and will probably go OEM all the way but want to see if there's a difference between DS and sport mode in a 545.
Thanks!!!!

See my comment on the previous page about this. I have the same setup in a 550.
