I cant get my head around why they make it a option as it all there built in it's just a case of programing it. Trust me I'm going to go back to my dealer and make a fuss and hopefuly they will install it for me i'll keep

I am in the same boat, satnav pro, and car turned up last Nov - UK.

It wasn't an option at the time, only "extended voice control" which implies a basic version is included. When I looked last at BMW web site to build your own car it wasn't an option then either.

I think they're taking the Mickie - a button that does nothing, and a bluetooth hands free set-up which isn't really hands-free WITHOUT voice control.

It's not only a s/w matter. In my case the dealer told me he had to install the 2nd microphone, the one on the right side.

I have just taken my car to the dealer because my voice recognition button on the steering wheel doesn't work and the dealer said that it is a option if you have
professional navigation system. Has any one got the same problem or and I being fogged of?

Johno,

The car I just sold had voice activation from the s/wheel for Bluetooth as part of the bluetooth option. I think you are being fobbed off.
The only optional voice control is the extended VC with a button down by the menu/Idrive. The Bluetooth option is the same as it ever was.

Take no sh*t from your dealer - It'll confuse them!

so I have the media package in my car which gives me bluetooth, telematics etc etc and i have also noticed that if i press the little voice button on the steering wheel nothing happens, are we saying something should happen i.e a beep to let you know the voice system is active? should this work as standard? very interested to know as i just assumed i did not have voice control as i did not specify the "ext voice" option.

It's an option here in France.

No mate, you won't have anything else you specced it or retrofit it.
