I remember reading from some navi post that if you update your navi SW (professional) to latest one, you would not only get the new POIs available but also some nicer graphix?

Is that true? I have 9/2005 car with original SW, will I get any benefits by updating SW? Pictures?

Oh yeah! the update is nice! It updates not just graphic/scheme. It also brings new features like searching business name & range on "information". In many area you can only start over if you made mistakes, now you can go back just 1 step to correct it. But it still confused when you say CITY or CD on voice recognition. You'll also see some improvements on other features even my bluetooth didn't get disconnect anymore. My experience is not "opening a new can of worms" like most SA describes.

when was this update released, and is there a sticky thread where we can keep us all up to date on versions and revisions? I think Iceman used to bring some info for us. (I've been away for a couple years without an E60..sorry)

I believe I have the latest, 2008.2, I didn't see much difference in graphics. I did see some new street addresses.

Map DVD you refer to (2008.2), has some new POI and address info. But I'm asking to see pictures of the Idrive and navi itself after SW update. Or am I lost here, is the "SW" update just latest DVD version and no Idrive update needed?

No, you are correct. Can't recall the timeframe but based on your initial post, a software update will give a new look to iDrive and give some upgrades to NAV like perspective view. That is different from the new DVD with the NAV data...

Guys, thanks for the correction on the DVD vs software update.

Question ... on May 30 I had my 08 550 "programed with CIP 29.2", is that the software upgrade you refer to?

Please un-confuse me.

Nothing to confuse, you are good to go. Back in 2006 (I think!) the CIP/Progman was updated and offered things like the perspective view you already have on your 2008 car. For the OP, he/she may benefit from a newer software version to gain these updates. But for someone w/ a 2008, no changes you should worry about. The DVD updates such as 2008.2 are simply map updates that the software uses.
