I complained about that fist thing. I thought, if it's not being used, then save the cold cathode back lights and get rid of the glow. Dealer couldn't help. Then I discovered that warning messages are displayed there as well as in the hud and dash. It must be a safety feature that one cannot turn off the warnings at all.

Iceman,
I think the aircon knobs on the dash looks so toy like and would always prefer those on my previous E39 - digital and rocker buttons, real neat. Do you think the knobs are too close a copy of what MB has?

Hey Iceman, this is more of a bug report than a feature request but I figured you'd see it anyway and pass it along to your contact...
On version 12.2, if I mute the radio/CD/whatever and make a phone call with the CPT9000, when I end the call, the radio "unmutes" and scares the hell out of you!
Also, I think (need to test again to be sure) that the volume the radio comes on at is the volume you used for the phone call. In other words, if I had to turn it up to hear my phone call, the radio comes on very loud instead of returning to the volume that it was on before I muted it.
You might ask, the phone automatically mutes the radio before making the call so why do it manually? Well that's true but in my case I had the radio muted for some time before making the call because I just didn't want it on (maybe to hear the V8 roar ). I wanted the radio to stay off indefinitely.

Okay, so I just did some more testing and everything works fine now.
All I can say is that just before I had the above mentioned "bug", iDrive crashed and went blank, rebooted, then came back. Must've come back in an unstable way or something...

So it probably had something to do with the crashing idrive and it's reboot...!?
I've never had that problem before (I mean the volume, off course I had a few crashes of my idrive ). I'm glad to hear everything is fine again... Have an eye on it!

Here's a new feature request:
On the SMG, from a standstill, you can click up one gear before starting out so that you can start off in 2nd. This feature is for slippery roads but also helps smoothnesss in stop and go traffic. With winter right around the corner, I can see myself utilizing this feature a bit more often.
What I'd like to see is a way to program the car to start in 2nd without having to shift it manually each time you stop. What happens now is that when you stop, the car always goes back to 1st gear so each and every time you start out, you need to upshift to 2nd before you move forward. I know other cars have a "winter/summer" switch that allows this type of program for the transmission -- why can't the SMG have it as well?

HUD Suggestion and This is A Great Idea
Press the HUD once and it comes on. Press it the second time and it dims. Press it the next time and it goes back to the normal setting. And on indefinetely. Hold the button down for 3 seconds and it goes off. This would be great for long tunnels, dusk driving etc, when you to go between normal and less bright settings.
