I'm guessing you never lived in Germany

Believe me, when you're cruising at speeds over 120mph and someone up ahead pulls into your lane and you have to slow down to 70mph while they pass a truck, all those HPs up high really do count for something when you want to regain your higher speed. Same thing when someone pulls out of the fast lane to let you go past them. If you're not packing them ponies, it can take a long time to get past. Meanwhile the nice person who let you go has had to brake because he caught up the car in front of him in his lane. LSDs don't come into it in those circumstances and there's all the grip you could want.

Good times on the Autobahns:

...and
or
in a 510BHP RS6 Plus.

Oh, no. I see what you're doing. No matter what I say, you're going to say that the M5 or the 550 can smoke it. I'm not getting into any of that, but if you must know, it was a street legal, race prepared, 1986 Porsche 911 Targa, making 325 horses (dyno tested) and prepared by European Performance Engineering, in Natick, MA. 0-60 in 3.5 (in 1993) and a real bad, bad boy. Crashed it within 6 months while making a crazy pass on 128, as it was a very temperemental car for the relatively inexperienced driver at the time.

Joined the PCA for their driving schools, after the crash, and became quite proficient driving it, and any other car, after a couple of years. At the time, I too, craved the 0-60 rush and kick back. After a while, that got real old, real fast, and came to appreciate sustained speed more than quick bursts. It was fun while it lasted. It was a very expensive toy and with a kid entering college I got rid of it and started with my other childhood dream of owning the great, but more affordable BMW brand, in 1997.

Now, I consider myself a purist and my cars must remain bone stock with the exception of tires. Other than that, my cars are very cookie cutter, but beautiful nonetheless.

The rest is history, and as you know, I now enjoy chasing alien spaceships with anything available. I'm thinking of getting a Segway and see if I can keep up with the 545.
my question had no malicious intent; I was simply curious. I've always had a soft spot for Porsches, especially the 911 and more recently the Cayman. Sounds like you had a killer 911 there.

Unless it weighed <2400 pounds and/or had a 6.90:1 rearend ratio or something, that's an outright lie.
I said it was a street legal, RACE car. What the hell is the matter with people here? If it doesn't come out or your mouth or one of your buddies it's automatically a fuc&*ing lie? Enough of this crap.

Admin, please delete my account. I guess I always thought BMW fanatics stick with one another and not fight each other and call each other liars. There is a great deal of growing up to be done here. Good grief!!!!

I never understood the fascination with straight line speed. It always seemed pointless. Hardly any skill is needed with the exception of the launch. I also feel 300+ hp without a LSD is also a waste. I've smoked several faster cars (c5 vettes on v710's, s werks minis, 335i) on the track with my little e30 crap box. You don't have to fight for reaer tire grip with lower hp cars or bikes. My lap times were always faster on 600cc bikes vs 1000. If you want to be slammed in to your seat for cheap get a 135i or an s54 powered m coupe. Or you could always just ad a 100 shot of NOS to your current car for that kick in the pants your looking for.
Honestly, I agree with you 100%. Straight line speed is fun but when you are able to throw a car around turns, that's where the fun begins. If I wanted a straight line car I would of bought a 03-04 Cobra and put 5k in mods then it would be fast as hell. I also would of saved 5-10k but I decided to get the 545 which handles like a dream and it's plenty fast for my first "fast" car.

Do me a favor, call Jerry Pellegrino at (508) 651-1316 and ask him how he can make a 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa into a 325HP car with 0-60 times in 3.5s territory: http://www.epe.com/

Most of the interior was stripped, suspension was totally replaced with lightweight composites, motor was replaced with supercharged, all titanium/aluminum motor, yet, I wanted it to look a run of the mill 911 targa. You don't even want to know what I spent for it. Let's just say that when I sold it, I was able to move from a 1200 sq. ft. ranch to the 3500 sq. ft. colonial you see in the background in my avatar with little difference in mortgage payments. Go ahead, say this is a lie, too.

Stock weight for this car was 2,740 lbs. Didn't take much to shave off quite a few more pounds.

Gimme a break, all right? Again, nothing to gain by lying. You don't know me and I don't know you. Tell me what the hell do I have to gain by lying? Oh, I get it, I'm supposed to feel good that a total stranger who doesn't know me from squat says. "oh wow, pretty impressive." Who the hell cares what you or anybody else think? All my real life friends were pretty impressed and they were all given their respective dose of spanking. I can give you the email addy of a few of them, if you really need testimonials. PM me privately.

I just posted some pictures in my gallery. That was a pre-digital camera era and in those days I just took everything for granted. I had a killer car, but I had a stupid point and shoot Pentax camera. This is all I've managed to scan. I know I have some sweet pictures of the mods and engine somewhere in the attic. I'll try to find someone with a scanner, if/when I find the rest of the pictures. I NEVER lie.
