right
Buy the way Porsche is not eye-catching there are too many around.
A ferrari 430 or Aston Martin DB9 yes this will be eye-catching
Porsche compare with E60 yes more eye-catching

Porsche compare with 430 or DB9 then no.

I know it's nuts. I have a very hot '05 545i with rediculously expensive and beautiful wheels (Radenergie R10), M Aero Kit, etc. (pic shown), but I am considering trading it (plus cash) for a mint '03 911. And I mean mint.
My '05 has 27k miles, is black on black. The 911 (996 C2) has 15k miles, is black on black.
What do you think?
-It will be my daily driver
-I have a 45 minute commute (each way)
-I have a 550i sport (TiSilver) as a backup, which I can put the R-10's on (wife's car, although she's loathe to drive the 911 6 speed)
-I have a 1 year old son (they do make a great rear car seat)
-I rarely ever even have 1 passenger (less than once per week)

I want people to look when I go by. I want to really enjoy the curves.

Share all your opinons here.

I have a 2005 911 convertible (997 C2) and a 2007 550i and believe I can offer an informed opinion for you. They are completely different cars as you noted. I use the 911 as a weekend toy and enjoy it for that purpose. If I had to drive the 911 everyday to the office the enjoyment would decline significantly. My commute is only 9 miles and covers some nice twisty roads. Maybe I am getting too soft as I get older (just hit 40), but the Porsche is no where near as comfortable as an everyday car. It is fun to drive, but don't kid yourself, it is a pure sports car and rides much more firm (read rougher) and has little space inside. My biggest complaint with the 911 are the seats. I am 6'2" and the top of the porsche seats get narrow and hit me on the back of the shoulder blades. Also, the porsche is much louder inside (even with top up) that makes it difficult to hear on a cell phone while driving (I know you are not supposed to use cell phone while driving). If it sounds like I do not like the porsche you are incorrect. It is a great weekend/evening toy. Especially with the top down. Its just that I personally would lose much of the enjoyment if I had to jump into (actually, stoop down into, and pull myself up out of) the porsche as my every day car. All that being said, if your wife can drive a standard transmission, and she doesn't mind letting you swap out for her car a couple times a week, you will love it. Otherwise, I predict in less than 3 months you will be wishing you had your bmw back. Good luck with whatever you chose.

The Porsche is a 3d car. You'll enjoy to drive it sometimes, on twisty mountain roads or smth., but NOT for an everyday use ! You'll regret your E60 in a lot of circumstances.
Go on a circuit once or twice a year & pay for a half day racing drive ... Much more fun and less money finaly !

I had the 03 C4S as my daily driver for a year and loved it, it is definitly an eye catcher a lot mre than the BMW. I really miss the handeling of that car and it's feel on the road however climbing in and out and space restriction got old after a while. Also, the fact that it became a 2 seater after my kids got too big for the back seat made me think about changing. The 550 to me was the logical step into a full size car with performance that is close to the Porsche and will give me more of comfort creatures in th car. In your situation, I think it might work with one year old in the back seat but believe me that will be a lot of work to get in and out of a car seat.
Get the Porsche and enjoy it and you can always change back or just get another car to alternate as a daily driver.

996 is a daily drive car. Don't have to be a weekend car. Sometime I use my 996 turbo as a daily. Porsche is designed for daily. I tested drive the 2007 997 Turbo couple weeks ago and the clutch is so easy to operated, easy as japanese car.

I am a 911 daily driver. I think if you know what you are getting and have that expectation it is a fine daily driver. If you are expecting something that is quiet with lots of creature comforts you will be disappointed. I have a really short commute, and honestly wish mine was long so I could spend more time in the car. I knew what I was getting when I bought it so I expect the narrow seats, noise etc. You make due, and when you hit the accelerator, top about 4k rpm and find a twist you will forget everything but the smile on your face. BTW- I am 6'4 too so I know about the seats being a bit narrow. Still i have gotten used to it.

Well, I didn't get the 911 I mentioned earlier- I got a better one: '04 911 Carrera with 9k miles, black on black. So far, I am extremely happy. No regrets.

But now driving our 550 and our 911 back to back, I am AMAZED by the power of our 550. The 911 is quicker to 20 mph, then the 550 is quicker from 20-40mph. After 40mph (where when pushing to 7,000 rpm's I shift from 1st to 2nd), it's hasta la vista, with the 550 in my rearview. Of course, the whole while, the 550 is enjoying bluetooth, 5 passengers, huge trunk, etc.!

Can't go wrong with either. For me, I am loving the 911. And I also enjoy toting the family in the 550.
CATTMAN

PS I'll post pics of both soon.
