I find that compared to GPS my speedometer seems to register that I'm driving faster than my actual speed by a few mph (e.g. speedo = 65mph / GPS [actual?] = 62mph)

My bad! That's what I mean in fact. The math still works though - if the speedo shows 5%+ on stock tires, using non-spec tires (40/35 in this case) should get you to a more correct speedo reading. Or not?

Aside from speedo error or correction ... IMHO clearance / rubbing is the other factor to keep in mind when considering tire-size changes. And minor (+1) upsizing usually doesn't require rim-width changes but going to extreme can stretch the tire and distort it's contact patch - actually degrading performance.

Mmmm... I have stock 18" on mine and I run 36 psi front and 44 rear. It seemed odd at first but that's what is stamped on the door.

My 2008 535i door jamb shows 32 front and 35 rear for 19". Surprising that that is the same for 17" as well. The max for rears can go to 38 psi.
laro1965 has Sport pack which may be higher than my non-sport listing.

Khooger, you mentioned that you also run with 32/36 psi -- your 545i has sport package as well but you have 19" tires instead of my 18" ones. Did you just pick that by trial and error or you prefer it that low?
