What is FTM?

FTM stands for the Flat Tire Monitor. As air leaks, tire pressure decreases, and the tire rotates faster. ABS sensors on the wheels detect a change in wheel rotation speeds, which signifies a change in the roll radius, or pressure level, of the tires. A warning light in the instrument panel notifies the driver of the pressure loss. In case of significant pressure loss, a warning buzzer sounds.

So there are no individual sensors mounted within each wheel? My Acura MDX had sensors on the valve stem so when I switched to aftermarket wheels, I had to make sure the sensors would fit on the new wheels. I guess I want to confirm that I don't have to worry about doing that when I replace the wheels on my BMW.

No sensors. No worry. The system uses the rotational sensors from the ABS system so any wheel will work.

The key thing to remember is that anytime you change wheels, tires, or pressure, make sure all four tires are set to the pressure you want and then re-initialize the system so it learns the new setup...

I think some one posted that the Style 122 are run flat but they make so much noise that is not even worth to have.

Any comments on that?

thanks. (i dont know if this is the right place to ask that question)
