I have a 525i and I love it. I test drove both the 525 and 530. In normal driving there isn't much difference between the 2. The 530 is a little more quiet b/c it doesn't have to work as hard as the smaller engine.

As far as the sports package, I didn't get it on my 525i. W/o the sport package the ride is much softer and is more luxurious in feel...probably due to the 16inch wheels. Any way I love my 525i and don't have any regrets...maybe thats b/c I also have an M3 when I feel like driving a little more agressive.

I'm curious how the ride on the new 525i w/o sport will be on the now standard 17" wheels?

my experience is that the larger the rim and lower the profile the harder the ride. This is even more so on run flat tires (tyres for my UK friends ;-)

Sorry... I just wonder if the sport package you have comes w/ Active steering and Dynamic drive?

If yes, I'll take the 525 w/ s.p. no questions asked!
If no, then i'll start considering do i really need the extra horsepower? And take into consideration that it cost more for insurance, gas, maintanence, etc....

And I really don't think you should feel bad when you see the 530i on the road, as no one would really care which e60 model you drive unless you are going to race w/ them!

If you're in 525 and 530 with foglights on, you need to run for your life. A coldman in 545 is gonna get you .
If you want to have your foglights on full-time, get 550 (rumor).

Once I find a way to have BMW allow me tuning my engine by Hamann (it's a lease... ) I'll have a 552... So a 550 might not be enough...

After reading so much comments about 530 vs 525, I feel happy with mine now.

I initially bought a 330i with everything (Sport, SMG, etc), had it for a weekend and realized that I needed something bigger and more comfortable for the family. I went back to the dealer and explained my situation, they took back the 3 and showed me the different 5s that they had in the lot, I ended up with my 525i and I do not regret giving up that sporty 330i at all.
