JimMy,
You felt bad about your 525 after driving 530, right? Now, you'd feel worst if you had 530 after testdriving 545
HP and torque are never enough once you get used to the punch.

Jimmy, I believe your better off with a 525 with Sports Package , then a stripped 530 .

I drove the 525 and 530 before choosing the 530. I liked the torque in the 530 more then in the 525. But to be honest I almost never use it. Yesterday in Germany it was great to have the extra HP to keep up and be faster then the rest around me. But in normal day usage it only helps the car in not shifting to much down in the steptronic when accelerating.

If I had to choose between a 525 with more options or a 530 without options I would go for the 525. In my case my 530 costs the same as a 545 without any options.. I'm happy I choose the full option 530, I use all of them a lot.

One of the reasons I never test drove a 545. I couldn't afford it even if I liked it. The 525 is just fine in the states. You'll never get it up to its potential anyway. I have a 530 and get nervous when I get above 125 MPH. The bigger engine is nice in Germany to keep up with the big boys over here. If you ever pull into the left lane going 120 MPH and you see these big lights bearing down on you - flashing in your rear view mirror, you'd be glad you have the extra horses. I'll never need or use the extra HP in the states.

Now that we are on this subject, let me ask a question more or less related to the subject.

How about a 525i with no sport pkg and a 525i/530 with sport pkg?

None of my BMWs have the sport pkg. I have never driven a bmw with portpkg. Sometimes I feel my e60 a bit sluggish when going around 80.

Any comments?

If by sluggish, you mean acceleration, then sport package does nothing for that. Instead, it gives more confidence at speed not only on curves but also on straightaways. You end up using the brakes less. The car feels lighter, more agile, and definitely sporty. That applies to any model e60. The z4 is lighter, agile and open and is more sporty by far. The 7 is fast and handles very well, even comes close to 5 when pushed (I was surprised how well), but is not sporty. There is no specification one can use to measure sporty. It is opinion more than anything.

Above figures quoted from BMW website.

Not that huge a difference when driving.? It's only if you plan to burn rubber from a standing start that you'd notice it.

Don't bother to argue: you're both right.

525i manual [automatic]
max speed (km/h): 238 [233]
0-100 km/h (secs): 7.9 [8.7]

Sorry..sluggish meaning that it is not very stable handling (suspension). But then again that is my opinion.

I think accelation is JUST fine for my driving style.
