Not in the U.S., I am getting tired of typing that. I have one, I should know.
That's correct. As a matter of fact I don't believe they offered m-tech kits till now, in the US, on the 550. The only ones to have them were the M5's.

Can't recall, did you order it that way or add the kit after delivery?

OK.......here's my attempt at clearing up some confusion about the M-Aero kit's availability on US model cars:

2004-2005 model: Not available as a factory installed option, and not available as a VDC installed option. However, in 2005 it was available for purchase from the parts departments of US BMW dealerships.

2006-2007 model: Available through dealer, but the kit was installed prior to delivery at the VDC (not the factory).

2008 model (LCI): The 550i Sport comes with factory installed M-Tech Aero kit along with M-Tech suspension, etc.

So the ONLY time when the Sport Package has INCLUDED the M Aero kit in the US has been the 2008 550i Sport (LCI).

In all pre-LCI models the M Aero kit was either not available, or available as a stand alone option either purchased through the parts department, installed by the dealer, or installed by the VDC prior to dealer delivery.......either way it was not part of the Sport Package.

pop your hood to check for active steering module, on passenger side, if its not there you dont have sport package. period, why bother with all the seats, wheels options to find out. everyone can change seats and wheels. but the active steering module is installed at factory. period.

For that time period probably ordered and isntalled at the VDC. Not from the factory like the LCI 550. Prior to 2006 you had to buy the kit and have an ourside shop or dealer install it.

Edit: Ops... didnt see Rudy's post.

Maybe the most important is that you are satisfied with the car you purchased, whether it has sport package or not! I mean, at the end of the day, this is what you will be driving, so if you were going to purchase it, I guess you were satisfied with the product proposed to you. After, if it has a full M-pack or not but you still enjoy driving it as much as when you tested it before purchase, then fine! Don't go further, accept your car as it is and love it! It's still a BMW e60 and for sure an excellent model, so no worries, you'll enjoy the ride every time you take it!

Well in the UK, the difference in cost between standard and sport is ?3,000 brand new. Not sure what it was like in 2004 or what the difference in the US is, but it's not just about the spec - it's about whether he paid sport or non-sport prices, if appropriate to the model and market.

Pete, your location would help clarify, but for U.S located MY2004 cars, as others noted, SP outfitted cars had the shadowline (matte black) trim while non-SP cars (like mine!) got the chrome. I suppose it is always possible that the original owner swapped them out, preferring the chrome but seems unlikely.
I m located in New Jersey

To determine if you have Active steering/Sport Package(on a 2004 in the USA) look for this module on the passenger side under the hood just behind the radiator core...
Well I have one of those so I guess I do have active steering. Just got back from a local meet up of 5 and 3 series owners all getting their cars remapped (and a few tagging along as well) and the consensous about my car was that's its a SE (confirmed by the body kit) but with all the sports options except suspension (as its standard SE ride height). What a really weird spec.
