The Getrag 6 spd manual/SMG can handle much more power and torque than the GM ZF slush box. M630 are you serious or are you just being agreeable??

[/quote]I actually read a similar story in some German car magazine a while ago - I thought the SMG is a standard gearbox with hydraulics fitted to it, so it does not make sense immediately. Its probably what the customer wants.
Btw., I am not looking down on non 545i owners. I had a 525i before for almost 5 years and had to save long and hard to be able to afford a 545i.

But I am a Chemist and make nowhere near what "real" doctors make
......at least not according to a recent poll they published here in a newspaper.

I think the Steptronic is excellent in the 545 and excellent in anything else. When I'm driving what's already a relatively fast and entertaining luxury sedan, I simply don't feel like messing with any shifting, no matter how simplistic.
Just my two cents.

Yeah steptronic is excellent, but the first time when i tried 545i SMG, i wanted it so so badly. Maybe it was my first time trying such transmission but somehow i really love it.. my nxt car will definitely be a SMG !

I feel the same way about
6sp manual. No substitute for it. To each it's own.
