It's pretty severe when it happens but luckily doesn't happen often...I think I know how to control it with steady throttle input. I think your right about confusing the software momentarily.

I have the seame thing, but on a more regular basis (1-2 per week). The shuddering is pretty strong, the entire drivetrain "bangs"...

I also have very rough downshifts (but of course not every time) when its cold outside and the car is cold.

I think the shuddering so far is only with SMG or 6 speed manual if you cant drive it properly...

But Auto had its fair share of banging and rough shifting and throttle lag. I think its more or less fixed with software upgarde now... but if you're thinking that SMG is the only transmission with problems then thats not true. Heres a prime example... http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=20140&st=

Actually there has been a safetly recall on the Autos already not being able to hold the car while in Park faulty plates or screws of some sort. On the other hand SMG hasnt had a recall yet.

I have had this problem in the past. Everytime I bring the car into service I say it is having problems that way I get the newest software upgrade. Currently, I am no longer have the downshift problem.

Have they replaced your transmission yet? Or at least the hydraulic pumps...

That would mean that my dealer actually cares or even understands the technology behind SMG............

Like I was saying before this also happens quite frequently. I'll be driving and it will feel like a clunk and the car sounds like it stumbles for a second and then I loose my active steering.SMG / Transmission issue-01_03_06_2354.jpgSMG / Transmission issue-01_03_06_2356.jpg
