WOW awesome pics. I love snow!
The problem with only a little snow in this area is that few people know how to drive in the snow. This isn't like being in New England where I grew up and people actually were ready for snow (tires). So 2" is fun but you have everyone on the road and many of who shouldn't be.
The day of that snow I had to go into work (I can't call out for snow days). And on the way home I pulled out 8 SUVs, 1 Van, and a snow plow from the side of the road. But the down side is that when I got home there was over 2' of snow I had to move. And most of the streets weren't touched by the plow (bonus).

On your way home, after dodging all the idiots who can't handle the small accumulation of snow on the road, don't forget to take frequent detours through as many large parking lots as you can find -- instant (and free) skidpad practice!!

I put always the handbrake, and when I see some risk of rolling I leave in D or R, no rolling anyway!
SMG is the best Gearbox avalaible in BMW for me! I love SMG! Only a few days of adaptation and everything ok!

Regarding the rolling when on park...
I don't know why your car would do that, but if you find yourself having to park on an incline a lot, I would certainly bring it to the attention of the dealer.
I remember this happening to one of my cousins. He parks his car on his driveway which has a very gentle gradient/slope. He forgets to engage the parking brake but the gear selector is in 'P' (park). The next morning I went out to grab some CDs from his car and found it sitting across the street but still on the street. LOL! The front end of the car was sticking out into the main path of the street but not enough to actually block traffic. His car would have ended up on his neighbors lawn if they didn't have a sidewalk in front of their house.

I couldn't resist but to try this rolling experiment. I parked my car on my driveway with four 2" tall bricks placed 2" behind the wheels. This is just to see whether the car will move or not. I left the gear in 1st and no parking brake was engaged.
Conclusion, the car did not move at all. My driveway has about 8 degree incline.
For all you SMG'er, you can just try this experiment by pushing your car without hand brake, and with the gear in 1st. If it moves, then you know the transmission has disengaged itself.
