2006 550i. Dealer ran my VIN and said no require updates are found for this car. But I've heard (again, i could be wrong) that some other owners who had slow idrive improved after they got an update. Plus there are more features. I would want to get it for free if possible or maybe just nothing over $100. (still in process of saving for gateway 500)

Seriously now, no more slug jokes. Mine was a dog when I had an error filled copy of the NAV DVD installed. It never displayed anything indicating an error, but the whole iDrive system just dragged, errrr was slugish, all the time. So I second SilberGraus recommendation to pull the CD's and DVD's, especially the DVD's.

I bought it from a member that was CPO'd. extended maintenance till feb/2012 and I think I only have CPO warranty left. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I remember I read it somewhere that iDrive isn't covered under warranty (at least not CPO).
Dealer wants at least $165 just to diagnose the problem that causes it....
I'm such a noob and I feel like I would be dragged into their traps if I didn't have this forum to ask help from =(

true that its not covered for audio...but (and a member on this forum successfully argued the following point), the i drive also controls the ac/heat settings and they have to replace on this basis if the idrive is bad. there was a whole discussion on this forum about this. good luck

thanks, someone also argued with GPS locking up intermittenly so I think I will use these 2 points to argue. I hope it works and the dealer doesn't call my bluff =P
