the kids have scratched the maple wood around the idrive nob. Can you get these scratches off? they are very light scratches.

You can't get rid of the scratches, but you can get rid of the kids!

That will not be easy, for sure.

I would try that paste to get light scratches out of mobile phone displays or some furniture polish...

When I had very fine scratches on my mobile phones display I just went to my local Vodafone shop and the had it.
It's just a little tube and only cost acouple Euro, I think it was about 1,50 Euro or so.
It worked perfectly, all scratches were gone.
I don't know if this will work, but I would try it.
I don't know the name of it and I don't have it anymore, but they should have somthing to remove light scratches from displays.

Ask for Displex.

I just searched the German Vodafone site and found it. It's a little more expensive now, but 5 Euro is still not bad. If it doesn't work you can definately use it for your mobile.

Vodafone Germany link

Link to manufacturer of Displex polish

How to get it in the UK

It's also available through KONDOR and through PHOENIX PRODUCT PACKAGING.

Yeah.. Displex is pretty good assuming that the item is scratched into the material not just on a coating... See http://www.displex.com/Languages/English/Index4.htm

I misread and thought you had scratches on the actual knob. If your into the whole wooden shift knob and such, I thought it would be cool to upgrade to a wooden Idrive nob. Don't think they make them though.
