Leather Quality?

I'm not a huge fan of the Dakota Leather. It almost looks like Vinyl or something.
It's so hard and doesn't really look luxurious.
Maybe it will last longer than the leather I had in my 3 Series though. That one got the "worn"/crack areas within about 4 years (and I used leather conditioner regularly).

Well I don t know about the others but it is a hard and tick leather...I had a 528 for 4 years with same Dakota leather and the only thing I can affirm is that its really durable and gets better looking and more confortable with time. I missed my old seat when I took delivery of my E60. After 5 months they are getting better though

Well, I'm coming from a GMC Yukon XL w/ leather, so needless to say the Dakota is a major improvement, but it does seem on the firm side compared to my parents two Mercedes. Definitely no complaints though, just thicker, which will probably be a plus in the long run with a 5 yr old and a 3 yr old!

I agree with some of the sentiments above as the leather is wearing in nicely. Though I usually drive alone, so my driver's seat is noticeably softer than the passenger's side.
The reason for this post, is because I drove around in a Lexus loaner the past week, an ES330 with only 5000 or so miles on the clock. Though one of the base models, I was surprised by the softness and comfort of the leather. I'll be the first to say that it's not a driver's car, but the interior was excellent.
This loaner car was in exchange for a LX470 that is about 5 years old. Though showing signs of wear, the leather is also nice and soft, but I expected this from one of the top models.
I have some experience with a Yukon Denali and find the leather to be rather soft, albeit with a rubbery quality to it.

My friend has a 03' E500 so I'm able to make a direct comparison to my 530. I think that the Merc's leather is a bit softer and more supple; but maybe as a direct result, the Merc's leather is also much more prone to wear and tear. Although I haven't had my car for a long time, I noticed that the Dakota, although a bit firm, looks like it will hold up for a pretty long time.
