did they tell you if the entire passenger restraint system was broken becaue of the sensor or was it just showing up the error. i wanted to know if the pasnger airbag deployment is affected by this warning.
This error message stops the airbag from deployment. No airbags will work with this error message. thanks

My SA told me the oppisite,
they told me that with this message, all of the airbags will go off, instead of the ones picked up by the sensor.

Don't take my word for it though, it should still be a safety concern regardless.
Also my light went off due to lack of battery power, so having a faulty sensor could effect the airbags differently (As dinan530i stated)

Try Charging your car, in my situation my battery was low, therefore setting off this sensor as well as the flat tire sensor.

I will check with the SA. Any idea on how much it costs to fix it if the sensors if they are a problem?

Just got off the phone with the advisor and the Mat sensor in the passenger seat is dead. $1100 USD to replace the mat sensor. I just bought my extended warranty thru BMW a month ago and my SA is telling me to wait another month to try and put thru a claim for it. So I will hold off for now and see if we can run a claim for it next month. DO you think it will benefit me to take it to another dealer for service to try and run a claim from another location than were the warranty was purchased from? thanks

Hello all,

2004 545i sport with the same problem. Its been on for about a week. Car is out of warranty but I have an extended.
Im gonna take it in for a few things

Squeeky ball joint
Leaking coolant (slowly)
Guage cluster that clicks after starting, then springs to life
Trans slam (maybe)
Air bag sensors
Check enging=n light came on for about a week (saying increased emissions) then went off
Gas cap loose signal though it wasn't loose
Ticking after initial start up (very faint)

I think thats it. Purchased car @ 50k nad only has 57k now.

So is there a tsb for this air bag sensor?

I've had the same issue with both of my e60's. AND, it was the same issue in both cars. The passenger side sensor in the seat (the one that registers if somebody is sitting there or not) had to be replaced. Hopefully this helps. It seems to be a damn common problem. Good thing it was covered under warranty for me.

I was told it will not deploy any of the air bags since it does not register anyone sitting in the seat.
