If you carry a plate in the boot and are able to make it look like you have just picked the plates up from the maker and are on your way home or to a dealer to fit them - you may actually have a story that may get you off the hook. The story wont work if you are in UK with an Italian car!
So the conclusion seems to be you have to attach it if you have to travel through many countries .
Italy: ?75
Denmark: ?66
Finland : ?150
Czech Republic: confiscation
Sweden: ?150
The Netherland: ?75
France: still don't know well, but pay attention
Greece: ?150-250
Switzerland:
Great Britain:
Germany:
Austria:
Belgium:
Holland:
Luxembourg:
Others pls specify

In Greece if you have nothing at front, the ticket is ?250 but if you have something (like sticker etc) then it's ?150 but also, if you carry the original plate with you then it's debatable, ie. you say "I've replaced my bumper due to a damage and that license plate holder was not available at that time and have it ordered at the dealer, so I'm waiting these days for it to arrive, that's why I placed the sticker on, in order the car to be legible"
It happened once to me and got a ...hmm Ok for now, but next time you will get a ticket... I said ok thanks ....I hope I won't see around his face again hehe...
Also, after doing 7.000 km trip around Europe last month, I've had no issues at all having my front sticker on

Would you mind posting a picture with how it looks ? ( You can cover in photoshop half of the plate if you want, of course )
Puricele7e, can you explain us the situation in Germany ? You or Iceman
Germany is a) the most populated country b) in the center of Europe, so during a trip you have to pass through there .
Thanks!

Pay attention, the idea is nice but in my opinion this is a fake plate here and only the State can emit plates .

You are in a better situation against the low with it on, than with nothing.
Here again ...but with a lot of insects on it

Right, but you are not trying to fool someone with it, as it has the correct data printed on it, it's also reflective.

No, it's better don't have it on (?74) than having it (confiscation + trial, the plate has the symbol of the republic and it is a document made by the State) .
I know that it's rare, but I prefer to risk ?70 .
Someone here had trouble with a different type of plate (square, white on black) on 197x cars : due to an accident, they tried to repair it instead of asking a new plate (with the current shape) .

Wow That looks very very slick and elegant, just like your car
Someone stole the numberplates of a friend of mine living in London (with the car being registered in Romania) and he recieved from the embassy some kind of replacement plates, and the front was maybe even smaller than yours. I wonder what will happen if he would get pulled over

In France: If your license plate are not proper you will get at min 68 euros fine and your vehicule will be held by the police for the duration of the repair (in short they will not allow you to pursue your trip). If you decide to push it to tribunal fine will go up to 450 Euros at min.
