There is nothing in the US driving tests that explain what a rear fog light even is. Most people in the US don't know, even if their car has one.

What's more irritating is cars sold in the US (ex. Toyota) that don't even has an indicator to tell you that your fog light is on and the switch isn't a momentary one so someone can drive with front fogs on all the time and not even know it.
right IC so itis not a world standard for fog light in a driving test.
In UK we are test stuff like this and more eg. how do you drive around a roundabout which I think us don`t have??? or maybe wrong

thats illegal under uk law
And the law was passed because drivers used to do it.

In the United Kingdom there are well-documented guidelines when rear fogs should be used but being guidelines there are plenty of wazzocks who don't follow them.

the fog light thing might be in the written part of the UK driving test, which requires you to answer summat like 54 questions right out of 60. Didnt have that when I passed 28 years ago.

When on my hols in Florida in september, there was a TV program, bit like the Osbornes, following a guy and his family - Gene Simmonds.

The son was doing his driving test revision, and they were looking at a question that would be a total show stopper in the UK.

It was : "How does a blind person indicate that they want to cross the road".

Just in case you have squished one blind person too many, the answer was : "They put the end of the walking stick into the road whilst standing on the kerb".

cheers

We could move on to "how does anyone cross the road in some mainland European countries"...

it is to late, he is involved in fogs right Ice? Like your comment I use my high beams when nice trucks came from 1st lane to 2nd -3rd in Germany, w/o indicating.

We had some seriously bad fog here in the UK just before Xmas, and I tried to search everywhere for my rear fogs, but couldn't find the button anywhere... Am I right in thinking I don't have one (535d)?? Seems strange as i thought it was a legal requirement for cars to be built with them in the UK??

That's when the visibility is LESS than 50 metres!

In Germany it is only legal to use them when the visibility is less than 50 metres, and the legal top speed when driving with rear fog lights turned on is 50 Km/h.
They are also ILLEGAL to use in the city, even when the visibility is less than 50 metres.

Can we get all Audi and MB owners in the US to follow someone in one of their cars at night (no fog, of course) with the rear fogs turned on? Is it me or are they the biggest abusers of the rear fog lights?
Yes, Audi and MB owners are by far the worst. While most high-end European cars do have them in the US, you most often see Audi's and MB's with them on. I find the rear fog lights much more annoying than the front fog lights (though I will not explain why becasue Iceman is probably tired of this by now). Surprisingly, I hardly ever see them on Volvo's despite the fact that Volvo owners are typically considered very safety conscious. (I presume Volvo's still have them. I had an early S40 that was equipped with a rear fog light).
